Plasma and Electricity

Uploaded by on Jun 14, 2011
Plasma is an ionized gas. That means that the electrons in this particular gas have been shifted around. That is, they have either been removed or added to atoms within the gas. Plasma usually has a high temperature. Some common plasmas that we see include fire and lightning. Stars are made up completely of plasma. This fact means that plasma is actually the most abundant state of matter in the universe. What this demonstration does is to show that a plasma is indeed ionized. In other words, it shows that a plasma can conduct electricity. By inserting a plasma between two conducting wires, a spark can be guided very easily along the length of the wires.
